time to pursue the road they took. Therefore, he united their
word, joined their hearts, took their concerns into consider-
ation, responded to their pain and hope, and addressed them
according to their level of understanding.
This is the perspective that Will Durant approached in
his commentary regarding the Islamic call that was a very
important juncture. It granted man a true value, and helped
him regain his humanity and the morals he propelled from
and gave much importance to the mind on condition that it
should not exceed its limits at the expense of spiritual life
and inner peace and should not affect the sanctity of revela-
tion.
On this basis, Islamic civilizationwas characterized, even
in terms of texts, by associating between the mind and the
soul and uniting subjective and social matters, accordingly,
we can find many verses that urge to think and meditate in
an era during which the entire world was immersed in the
darkness of ignorance. The religious belief was achieved
in absolute obedience and any humble question concerning
the concepts and religious rituals in the West used to propel
the questioner into death and destruction or deprivation and
the best evidence on that were the horrors of the Inquisi-
tions in the middle ages.
