Russia on Sunday accused Ukraine's leaders of waging "war against their own people" and denounced Kiev's plans to involve the army in an "anti-terrorist" operation against pro-Kremlin separatists.

"We demand... that those who overthrew the legitimate president of Ukraine immediately stop waging war again their own people," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement, adding it was "especially outraged" by Kiev's decision to use armed forces against pro- Kremlin militants.
