Libya: A security official in Libya says activists have blocked the road to Benghazi's international airport, protesting against the country's parliament, which was due to dissolve two months ago.

The official said activists set tires ablaze Sunday on main roads, including the one leading to the airport. The official says the protesters also forced a university, some governmental schools, banks and the city's port to close.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters.

Libya's parliament, split between Islamist and non-Islamist blocs, was to have been dissolved Feb. 7. However, Islamists led a motion to extend its mandate by another year.

Parliament recently voted to hold early elections this spring, but protests against lawmakers continue.
