Female French student found murdered in east Australia

A young French woman has been found dead in the Brisbane, the fourth foreign student to be murdered in the east Australian city since November.

The naked body of a 21-year-old student was found by a passerby on Friday in a park near her apartment, police announced on Wednesday.

"We believe the cause of death is from a brain injury from blunt trauma, so it's a particularly aggressive attack," said Detective Inspector Rod Kemp.

Police are examining CCTV footage to try to find the killer.

Local media have identified the victim as Sophie Collombet, who arrived in Australia in February last year to study business at Griffith University.

Her friends reported that she was missing on Monday.

Brisbane has been the scene of three other murders of foreign students recently but the alleged killers have all been arrested:

  •     South Korean female student Eunji Ban, 22, was found dead last November - Alex Reuben McEwan, 19, has been charged with her murder;
  •     The body of another South Korean, this time male, Min Tae Kim, 28, was found buried in a garden les than a month later after arranging to exchange 15,000 Australian dollars for Korean currency with someone he met online - a 28-year-old Korean man Sanghyun Hwang was charged in December;
  •     Last month Singaporean student Meenatchi Narayanan, 27, was found stabbed to death in a hotel room - a 31-year-old man has been charged with her murder.
