Kuwait has given the world the best example in applying Islamic religion teachings, by providing ongoing support for international humanitarian projects, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said.
This example demonstrated when His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah lunched an international movement to support the Syrian people, Guterres told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following the receipt of USD 1 million in donation from the State of Kuwait.
This support was also through the call to the first Donors Conference when the State of Kuwait donated the highest amount and the highest donation the commission received, Guterres stressed.
Guterres pointed out that the second Donors Conference also saw a generous support from the State of Kuwait as well as the good organization and the deal victims requirements, carried out through several projects in temporary housing, nutrition, treatment and children education.
The State of Kuwait's efforts are gaining high credibility that senses the suffering of those affected and interact with them in line with theirs situation, he added.
Guterres praised the allocation of an additional quarter of a million dollars from Kuwait to support projects of victims of natural disasters in the Philippines and finance humanitarian projects in Somalia in different areas.
For his part, Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghoneim told KUNA that this donation comes from Kuwait dealing with humanitarian crises around the world through UN organizations.
Kuwait's donation this year to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is in two areas, the first is quarter of a million dollars for projects to deal with natural disasters in the Philippines and to ensure continuity of humanitarian projects in Somalia, he added.
The second donation, which is worth USD 1 million, aims to support the activities of the Commission and its various projects in various areas in the world, he said.
